FotoFinder dermoscope: FD lens
With the FD lens for fluorescence diagnosis (FD) you can visualize non-melanoma skin cancer and cutaneous precancerous stages such as solar keratoses, basal cell carcinomas etc. Therefore the application of a photosensitizer (e.g. 5-ALA) is required. The photosensitizer is accumulated in the tumour cells and visible under the ultraviolet lens light.
With the FD lens you can easily integrate FD into your workflow. A Wood's-light or darkroom is not necessary as the lens is put on the skin with a light-tight tube and a blackout cloth to eliminate external light.
The lens has 2 light sources: white LED's for the clinical image and ultraviolet LEDs for the fluorescence image. You can easily switch from one light source to the other and document the therapy. Photo documentation is an important means to check the treatment success at follow-up examinations.
