handyscope reveals skin cancer in a different light

FotoFinder, manufacturer of medical imaging technology, announces the launch of the renewed mobile dermoscope for iPhone. The new handyscope model enables doctors examining a mole with the help of a new twin-light system and allows contact and non-contact image viewing.

handyscope, the mobile dermoscope for iPhone, has been supporting doctors to detect skin cancer since 2010. Now, the new model for iPhone 5 comes with a slim design and a unique twin-light mode combining the advantages of crosspolarized and immersion fluid dermoscopy. A quick tap button enables to toggle between both modes. A LED indicates the chosen light option.

Two flexible front pieces – one with glass contact plate and an open one – allow doctors taking pictures with or without glass contact to the skin. This function provides users to view elevated lesions as well as vascular conditions without compression and facilitates the diagnosis of basal cell carcinoma. Doctors can charge the iPhone or follow the examination with a patient live on a big screen with a special notch in the case.

Just like former models, handyscope is still used together with the password protected handyscope app. With one tap doctors freeze, save and evaluate an image on-screen. Pictures are organized and managed in the app. Additionally, users can tag them with patient data and comments and select the localization on a virtual patient. Pictures can be uploaded into a secure private web space on the cloud-like internet platform FotoFinder Hub. From there it is possible to request a second

opinion on suspicious moles. A team of international skin cancer experts reviews the pictures and sends a rating within 24 hours.

“The relaunch of handyscope for iPhone 5 is the result of doctors´ feedback and the requirements for modern mobile dermoscopy. Additional functions like the cloud-like Hub with web storage and second opinion service create a complete and safe storage solution and the perfect surrounding to detect skin cancer earlier. That’s why handyscope is the only device for eDermoscopy,” says Andreas Mayer, CEO of FotoFinder Systems.
